Washington State’s Open Seat 1st Congressional District Earns Spot in DCCC’s National Red-to-Blue Program

Following Suzan Delbene’s entry into the crowded field, national Democrats signal that they intend to make victory in this open seat swing district a priority

Kirkland, WA -- Suzan DelBene, who entered the 1st Congressional District race last week, today announced that Washington State’s 1st Congressional District has earned a spot on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) highly competitive Red-to-Blue program.

The newly redrawn 1st CD was named to the program because the DCCC said they are committed to winning the open seat, which is shaping up as one of the most competitive swing districts in the country.

“This is important news for the people of the 1st Congressional District, given that Republicans are likely to nominate a far-right Tea Party candidate like John Koster,” DelBene said. “It means that if Democrats select a strong candidate in the primary, they are going to get valuable assistance in moving on to victory in November.”

The DCCC’s Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns and races across the country, and offers them financial, communications, grassroots, and strategic support. The program will introduce Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for these campaigns.
